We get asked many questions about worktops and which materials are best to choose. We believe there is no right or wrong when it comes to worktops and it really depends on your circumstances and how you and your family cook and eat.
We thought we would turn the spotlight on worktops and run through the benefits to help you decide what you need. This week we are looking at Corian…
With innovative design possibilities and an enduring colour palette, Corian has endless options…if we can design it…Corian can make it. Created by a company called DuPont, Corian is built to last. It is made from a unique blend of minerals and acrylic which creates a stone-hard surface that can then be thermoformed, backlit, engraved, and textured.
Durable and repairable
Corian can survive the impact of nicks and cuts that occur with everyday use. Heavy stains can be erased without a trace. Corian is not heat proof though, so you would need a trivet for hot pans. If there is a scratch, a Corian craftsman can usually remove these by carefully sanding and polishing it out, replacing the damaged section and leaving no joins or marks. This means that a Corian worktop is robust and lasts for years making it cost-effective.
Corian is an incredibly versatile material that is easy to live with. It cannot de-laminate and any joints are inconspicuous. It is the perfect material if you want to create interesting designs with curves and a seamless, clean look. You can create a smooth transition from worktop to upstand to splashback and sink, as pictured above in a recent Bradburys kitchen featuring Corian in Grey Onyx.
Easy to clean
Corian is non-porous so prevents fluids, dirt and stains from penetrating the material. This makes it a very hygienic surface and very easy to clean.
Corian has a wide range of colours and patterns available, here are just some of our favourites which are very popular in our designs…
