Top 5 must haves for kitchen design 2019

14th Jan 2019

We have compiled our TOP 5 picks in kitchen design that are set to rise in popularity in 2019 and beyond.

Multi-purpose islands

The kitchen island is at the top of most people’s wish lists and has become an integral feature in open-plan living. 2019 will see upgraded, all-purpose islands, where the island will bring together the whole family and provide for all their needs. It can now be designed to include open shelving for books and multi-media, seating and bench areas, a breakfast bar for informal dining, and a lower level table for work or homework.

The introduction of downdraft extraction hobs gives unlimited design possibilities when it comes to islands because we are not governed by where the extractor needs to be ducted out.

Hot Taps

You may not know how much you need a hot tap but then it fast becomes the thing you couldn’t live without. A hot tap gives you instant boiling water at 100 degrees, plus hot, cold and now filtered water, making cups of tea for your friends much faster; saving time, energy, water, and removing the need for plastic bottles. You can also banish the kettle from your worktops, allowing you to create a clean, sleek look for your kitchen.

In 2019 people will become much more bold in their colour choices for their hot tap and there are so many choices from Quooker – black and gold being popular choices to add some glamour to your design, and now you can even get your Quooker custom coloured by Yardley Bespoke.

Bronze, Copper, and Gold

These stunning and glamorous tones have been growing in popularity for a few years and often used as accents in accessories and handles. 2019 will see much bolder choices and people being brave and really going for whole colour schemes with all gold, bronze or copper units, islands and worktops, making a real statement kitchen that stands out and has the wow factor.

The return of larders

Larders are becoming increasingly popular again and if you have the space, they are a must have to include in your design – they are so practical as they hold a large number of items, they hide everything away, allowing you to keep work surfaces clean and minimalist. We now have pocket door larder units that hold small appliances so you can hide your blenders, mixers, and microwaves. The pocket doors give a clean sleek finish as they slide back into themselves.

Smart Homes

Advances in technology are making our kitchens become more intelligent, allowing us spend less time working hard in the kitchen and more time socialising and enjoying the open plan space. Wi-fi connected smart appliances and advances in refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, hobs, and lighting are transforming the way we live.  In our Exeter showroom, we have Siemens Home Connect  appliances that connect to smartphones allowing you to remotely turn on or off ovens, hobs and coffee machines. You can check the status of the hob, automatically control the extractor hood from your hob, choose your favourite light colour to create the right atmosphere in your home and use the App to create your friends desired drink, programme the coffee machine to make it and the save the choice ready for next time!
